National Gas
“It was a fantastic experience working with AMH. From the outset of the project, it was immediately obvious that AMH’s focus was on providing a design-and-build that delivered an office environment that worked for us, not one that worked from the developer’s perspective. Interviewing the wider team prior to design further ensured that we got a fantastic, fit-for-purpose space.
The actual build was like clockwork and delivered an outcome that was on time, on budget, and of very high quality. I couldn’t be more pleased.”
Craig James – Regional Director West
When National Gas asked AMH to help create their new South West workspace, the ambition went beyond a functional fit-out. They wanted a space people genuinely wanted to use, a home base for the team, and somewhere that visiting colleagues from across the business would feel instantly comfortable. Somewhere they’d actively choose to spend their time.
Rather than jumping straight into layouts and furniture, we started by listening. A series of employee and stakeholder workshops, alongside engagement questionnaires, helped us understand how the team really worked, where the existing office was falling short, and what a better version could look like. This gave the National Gas team a genuine stake in shaping their future workspace, and gave us the insight to design something that would genuinely serve them.
Alongside the practical layout options we developed, we introduced something a little different, a “wild card” concept that pushed the brief further and challenged some of the assumptions about what the space could be.
To our delight, the team embraced it.
From that point, the project became a genuine partnership. The National Gas team visited our studio, explored materials and finishes with us, and joined us on showroom visits in London. Detailed 3D walkthroughs allowed everyone to explore the office virtually before anything was built; testing ideas, refining the layout and making confident decisions in real time.
Transparency was central throughout. Costs, specifications and design choices were reviewed openly at every stage, so every decision delivered genuine value. During the build, weekly site meetings were supported by regular video updates and photographic progress reports, keeping the National Gas team fully informed even when they couldn’t be on site.
The finished workspace gives the team everything they need for how they work today and how they’ll work in the future. Dedicated focus areas for heads-down tasks sit alongside quieter zones for confidential conversations. A central breakout space has become the heart of the office: relaxed, social and easy to drop into. High huddle tables, private booths and enclosed meeting rooms offer further choice depending on how people want to work.
Carefully chosen materials and colour palettes bring warmth and character to the space while subtly reinforcing the National Gas brand. The resulting design language is strong enough to inform future workplaces across the organisation.
Most importantly, the office works. It supports focus, collaboration, and wellbeing, and gives visiting colleagues a place that instantly feels familiar and welcoming.
A workspace designed not just to function, but to bring people together.
