"This new design has revolutionised the communication and engagement of our people – previously, teams were split up into four separate areas. Staff had to cross a central stairwell and pass through security controlled doors to reach other sections. The addition of art, creative lighting, air conditioning and soft furnishings has completely changed the feel of the space, creating an atmosphere of creativity."
Nigel Richings, Alliance Pharma, Facilities Manager
Alliance have been at their Grade II listed building since 1998 and have grown into the entire building of 17,000 sqft throughout that time. The iconic building in Chippenham used to be home to the production of Nestlé Condensed Milk until the 1960’s. The existing layout of the building into individual suites created separation between the teams which wasn’t supporting their company culture.
The overall design concept for the new workspace, created by Wylde IA, included a new cafe and breakout space providing new places for informal meetings and a great environment for everyone to have lunch. The original industrial architecture and heritage of the building has been celebrated by exposing the original structural ceilings and columns. The new central staircase linking the floors allows the teams a visual and practical integration that wasn’t possible before. Attention to feature lighting, inspiring artwork and a new system for fresh air has completely changed the feel of the building to one that fosters creativity.
The refurbishment was carried out in phases to allow the day to day work of the company to continue with minimal disruption. The team at Alliance are now able to work with better efficiency as the flow of the workspace allows them to connect with their colleagues more easily, and makes a greater choice of work settings available for the entire team.
